Presbyter Mile Subotić Earns Doctorate with Research on Orthodox Church History in the USA

On Monday, September 30, 2024, at 10:00 AM, in the amphitheater of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, University of Belgrade, Presbyter Mile Subotić, MA, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation titled “Historical and Ecclesiological Aspects of the Organization of the Orthodox Church in the USA in the First Half of the 20th Century.”

The committee members were Prof. Dr. Ivica Čairović, Prof. Dr. Rastko Jović, and Prof. Dr. Marko Veković. Priest Dr. Mile D. Subotić expressed his gratitude to Prof. Dr. Vladislav Puzović, whose mentorship was instrumental in bringing this dissertation to fruition. He also extended heartfelt thanks to the faculty, collaborators, and staff of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, University of Belgrade, for their support and valuable suggestions throughout his research journey.

Additionally, he emphasized the honor and privilege he experienced during his five-year tenure as an assistant at the Faculty, where he participated in numerous academic conferences and published works related to his research topic. Lastly, he expressed his deepest gratitude to his family for being his unwavering support system, offering constructive feedback, and making significant sacrifices during the course of his work on the dissertation.

Priest Dr. Mile D. Subotić (*1977) served as an assistant at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, University of Belgrade, in the Department of Serbian Church History from October 2018 to October 2023. He is currently an assistant in the Departments of Serbian Church History and Homiletics at the Faculty of Theology of Saint Sava in Libertyville, Illinois, USA. He graduated from the Seminary of Saint Sava in Belgrade and earned his higher theological education in 2002 at the Faculty of Theology of Saint Sava in Libertyville, Illinois, USA. He completed his postgraduate studies in Liturgics in 2006 at the University of Notre Dame du Lac in Indiana, USA.

Priest Mile Subotić’s scientific research focuses on the history of the Serbian Church and other local Orthodox Churches in the United States. His bibliography includes fifteen published works. In addition to his teaching and research activities, he actively promotes theology and science through appearances on radio and television.
