A Historic Beginning to the 2025–26 Academic Year
The Diocese of New Gracanica–Midwestern America is grateful to announce the blessed beginning of the 2025–26 Academic School Year at St. Sava Academy in Chicago.
On the first day of school, students, parents, and teachers gathered with joy to mark this important milestone. This year is especially historic, as the Academy celebrates a record enrollment of 202 students. The growth of the Academy is a living witness to the faith, sacrifice, and dedication of our families and community.
His Eminence Archbishop of New Gracanica–Chicago and Metropolitan of Midwestern America Longin emphasized the significance of the Academy for our Church and people:
“St. Sava Academy is not simply a school — it is a spiritual home where our children are nurtured in faith, knowledge, and love for their heritage. It is here that future generations are formed, their identity is shaped, and the roots of community are strengthened. The Academy is a gift from God and a responsibility for all of us, as it ensures the continuation of our Orthodox faith and Serbian tradition in this land.”
The school year began with greetings from Dr. Don Hendricks, Ed.D., Interim Principal of St. Sava Academy, alongside Peter Vezmar, Interim President of the Board of Trustees, and Samantha Lazic, Board Member. Their words set a hopeful and encouraging tone for a year of academic excellence and spiritual growth.
The Cathedral clergy prayerfully served the blessing of water, blessing the students, classrooms, and teachers, invoking God’s grace for a fruitful and joyous school year.
We are deeply thankful to Zora and Holly Goljić, who captured the joy of the day with her beautiful photography.
