On Sunday, August 3, 2025, the patronal feast of the Monastery of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Mark in Lorain, Ohio, was solemnly celebrated with great joy and spiritual fervor. The Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Longin of New Gracanica–Chicago and the Midwestern American Diocese, with the concelebration of several priests and deacons from various dioceses. The church was filled with the faithful, gathered in prayer and thanksgiving.
The Monastery of St. Mark serves as a beloved spiritual refuge and sanctuary for the Serbian Orthodox faithful in Ohio and beyond. This year’s kumovi (sponsors) of the feast were Mr. Dalibor and Mrs. Ana Stojanovic with their family.
Following the Divine Liturgy, a litija (procession) was held, culminating in a memorial service at the monument of General Draza Mihailovic. Prayers were also offered for the repose of the ever-memorable Metropolitan Irinej, Prota Djuro, and all departed parishioners.
In his homily, Metropolitan Longin emphasized the Divine Liturgy as the supreme expression of God’s love for mankind and a manifestation of our unity in Christ. He underscored the power of prayer for both the living and the departed, which unites us in the communion of the “heavenly and earthly Church.” His Eminence called upon the faithful to cultivate mutual love and harmony and commended the tireless efforts of the Serbian Orthodox community in Cleveland who continue to support and beautify this sacred place.
A festive banquet was held following the Liturgy, during which Metropolitan Longin reiterated the importance of brotherly and sisterly understanding among the people of Saint Sava, expressing his heartfelt gratitude for their dedication and sacrifices.
On this occasion, His Eminence especially honored the long-standing and exemplary service of Fr. Leontije, bestowing upon him the Order of St. Mardarije in recognition of over five decades of faithful ministry at the Holy Altar. Metropolitan Longin praised his monastic life and the humble endurance with which he has borne the monastic and earthly cross.
