Bright Tuesday at the Cathedral: A Witness of Faith with Metropolitan Longin and St. Sava Academy

The radiant joy of the Resurrection continued to shine brightly this week as our Cathedral community gathered for a special celebration of Bright Tuesday. The day was marked by a profound sense of faith, tradition and the vibrant presence of our youth, highlighting the spiritual continuity of our faith.

Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and the Voices of our Youth

The day began with a festive Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Longin. His Eminence’s presence provided a powerful paternal blessing for the gathered faithful, as he led the clergy and the people in the triumphant Paschal prayers.

A particularly moving moment occurred during the clergy communion, when the students of St. Sava Academy filled the Cathedral with their voices, singing the beloved hymn “Ljudi likujte.” The sight and sound of our Academy children leading the congregation in praise brought a palpable sense of Paschal joy to everyone in attendance, serving as a beautiful reminder of the importance of passing our traditions to the next generation.

The Paschal Procession (Litija)

Following the Liturgy, His Eminence Metropolitan Longin led the clergy and the St. Sava Academy students in a solemn Paschal Procession (Litija) around the Cathedral. Carrying icons and banners, the procession moved in honor of the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

According to holy tradition, the seven days of Bright Week are celebrated as a single, continuous day of Resurrection. The church rubrics call for this procession to take place at the end of every Liturgy during this week, serving as a public witness to the world that Christ has trampled down death by His death.

A Lasting Tradition

The participation of St. Sava Academy in this Hierarchical celebration underscores the Academy’s vital role in the spiritual life of our Cathedral. By walking alongside Metropolitan Longin in the Litija, our students are not just learning about their faith—they are living it.

This Paschal procession will continue to be a cherished tradition at our Cathedral for years to come, ensuring that our children and our entire community can boldly proclaim to the world:

Hristos voskrese! Christ is Risen! Hristos Anesti!
