Bishop Serafim Visits Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral

The faithful of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago were blessed with a pastoral visit from His Grace Bishop Serafim, who presided over the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy yesterday. His Grace was joined by V. Rev. Dr. Darko Spasojevic, Dean of the Cathedral, and V. Rev. Stavrophor Dobrivoje Milunovic.

In his sermon, His Grace offered a profound reflection on the day’s Gospel reading, the parable of the “Rich Man and Lazarus” (Luke 16:19-31). He emphasized the importance of living with mercy and compassion, reminding the faithful that just as God is merciful to us, we are called to extend mercy to others. The parable, which contrasts the eternal fates of a wealthy man who neglected the suffering around him and a poor beggar named Lazarus, underscores the necessity of caring for those in need and the spiritual dangers of being consumed by wealth and indifference.

Fr. Spasojevic welcomed Bishop Serafim on behalf of the Cathedral clergy and community, expressing gratitude for his spiritual leadership and inspiring message. After the service, His Grace greeted parishioners briefly before traveling to the West Coast to attend a fundraising banquet at St. Simeon Serbian Orthodox Church in Las Vegas.

Looking ahead, the Cathedral is honored to announce that His Eminence Metropolitan Longin and His Grace Bishop Serafim will serve the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy together at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral on Sunday, December 15, 2024. There will be one Divine Liturgy, beginning at 9:30 AM. All faithful are encouraged to attend this special occasion and join in prayerful celebration.

The visit of His Grace Bishop Serafim was a source of great joy and spiritual renewal for the community, reminding all of the central call of the Gospel: to live with love, compassion, and a commitment to serving others in Christ’s name.
