The 83rd Congress of the Serbian National Defense is set to take place on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Serbian National Defense House in Chicago. This annual event brings together delegates from the Serbian community to discuss important matters and celebrate their heritage. The Congress will kick off with delegate registration at 9:00 AM, followed by the official opening at 9:30 AM. At noon, delegates and guests will be treated to a delicious lunch, providing an opportunity for everyone to connect over a shared meal. This break will allow attendees to reflect on the morning sessions and prepare for the afternoon’s activities.
On Sunday, June 30, the celebration continues with the commemoration of the Serbian National Defense in America, and their slava St. Lazarus of Kosovo. The day will begin with the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago. Following the liturgy, a Slava banquet will take place in the banquet hall. Nebojsa and Tamara Zivkovic will graciously host the Slava.
The highlight of the VIDOVDAN celebration is the event on Sunday, June 30, at the Social Hall of the Cathedral at 1:00 PM. The program for the day includes a blessing and welcome speech by the Vicar Bishop-Elect and bishop of Kostajnica, SERAFIM. V.Rev.Dr. Stojiljko Kajevic will present an enlightening history of the Serbian National Defense, providing valuable insights into its significance and contributions.
Moreover, the event will feature a special guest historian, Prof. Dr. Milos Kovic from the University of Belgrade. Prof. Kovic’s expertise will enrich the gathering with his profound knowledge and perspective on Serbian history. To add a touch of cultural vibrancy, the folk ensemble “Oko sokolovo,” under the direction of Milan Andrianic, will perform. Additionally, students from the Serbian school and acclaimed actor Milenko Shisharica will showcase their talents, further enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
