St. Sava Celebration 2025: A Heartfelt Gathering of Faith and Community

On January 25th, the faithful of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago came together to celebrate St. Sava, the beloved patron saint of education, unity, and the Serbian Orthodox Church. Families and children filled the church with joy and reverence for this special occasion.

The celebration began with a moving Akathist to St. Sava, followed by the traditional Blessing of the Slava Kolac and Zito, a deeply meaningful ritual that reflects faith, gratitude, and unity within the community.

This year’s honored Kumovi, Luka Bojovic and Natasa Jelaca, represent the spirit of dedication and stewardship within our parish. Their contributions to the life of the church were felt throughout the evening, inspiring all in attendance.

The highlight of the evening was the St. Sava Program, where children from the Serbian School, SOKO, Jr. Brankies Children Choir, and Church School showcased their talents. With heartfelt recitations of poems, traditional hymns, and spirited songs, they paid tribute to the legacy of St. Sava and celebrated his enduring importance in Serbian Orthodox life.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Stanislava Milosevic, who served as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies, leading the program with grace and enthusiasm. Special gratitude also goes to the teachers, SOKO board members, and parents, whose tireless efforts made this celebration an unforgettable experience for our children and families.

The celebration concluded with music and fellowship, as parishioners shared moments of joy and camaraderie, united in their faith and love for St. Sava’s legacy.

May the prayers of St. Sava continue to guide and bless our children, inspiring them to grow in faith, wisdom, and love. Ziveli!
