In a spirit of reverence and joy, the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago witnessed a vibrant celebration of the Feast of the Nativity of our Lord and God Jesus Christ today. The sacred event drew a large congregation, including faithful worshippers and jubilant children, filling the cathedral with an atmosphere of spiritual warmth.
His Grace Bishop Longin of New Gracanica and Midwestern America led the Divine Liturgy, joined by V. Rev. Darko Spasojevic, V. Rev. Dobrivoje Milunovic, Rev. Nikolaj Kostur, Protodeacons Milovan Gogic, and Theodore Sokolovich. The liturgical responses were beautifully sung by our Cathedral Choir, SSS Branko Radichevich, directed by Jelena Stojakovich. The divine service resonated with solemnity, echoing prayers and hymns that reflected the significance of the occasion.
Bishop Longin, in his insightful sermonette, remarked that the birth of Christ is an event of cosmic proportions, God’s coming to Earth, becoming one with humanity. He emphasized that this act of divine humility serves to give profound meaning to history, time and our lives.
The cathedral, adorned with festive decorations, welcomed the faithful who had gathered to partake in the spiritual celebration. This joyous congregation mirrored the spirit witnessed on Christmas Eve, underscoring the deep sense of community and shared faith among the worshippers.
As the faithful commemorated the birth of Jesus Christ, prayers were offered for peace to prevail in hearts and homes. The clergy shared messages of hope, unity, and love, emphasizing the timeless significance of the Nativity and its potential to bring blessings in the upcoming New Year.
Reflecting on the vibrant celebration, Protinica Jelena Milunovic remarked, “It was beautiful to see the cathedral full of the faithful today, as well as on Christmas Eve. The sense of togetherness and shared joy creates a truly uplifting experience.”
